China has rolled out trials on the application of blockchain technology to various sectors. These include 15 city governments and 164 other entities including companies, universities, hospitals, and industry groups. China Mobile, China Southern Power Grid, China Huaneng Group, and CNOOC are listed in the “blockchain + energy” pilot while China Merchants Group is on the “blockchain + trade finance” pilot list. Among the targeted cities are the capital Beijing, Guangzhou in the south, and Guiyang in the southwest. The Cyberspace Administration said the programme aims to “sufficiently let blockchain technology play its role in facilitating data sharing, optimising business procedures, lowering costs, improving synergy, and building reliable systems”. Focus areas include manufacturing, energy, legal affairs, copyright, cross-border financing, education, and healthcare.
