China Bond Market Liquidity Facility Launched to Support Financial Institutions

A new China bond market liquidity facility has been established by the People's Bank of China to help non-bank financial institutions manage redemption pressures and maintain stability during periods of market stress.
The Bond Market Non-Bank Financial Institution Swap Facility allows eligible bank wealth management subsidiaries, public fund managers and their parent companies to borrow central bank bills to obtain financing.
Participating institutions can use the proceeds to purchase eligible bonds or units in their own mutual fund products experiencing redemption pressures, before pledging the acquired assets to the central bank.
The arrangement is designed to provide additional liquidity when financial institutions face simultaneous withdrawals or broader systemic market disruptions.
By helping fund managers meet redemption requests, the facility could reduce forced asset sales and limit volatility in China's bond markets.
For family offices and institutional investors holding Chinese fixed-income assets, the measure provides an additional mechanism intended to support market stability during periods of financial uncertainty.
