Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a stronger effort to strengthen China's state-led system to achieve breakthroughs in core technologies amid tensions with the US. Xi said China will improve its mechanism for core technology development and strengthen the ruling Communist Party's leadership in tech innovations. Top leaders at the meeting passed guidelines to improve the country's “new whole-nation system” in driving breakthroughs in core technologies. He said that competitive advantages should be achieved in certain sectors to win strategic initiative opportunities as he urged the country to make use of its ability to pool resources to get major undertakings done.
