Australian Bangarra Group family office to build 3,000 homes

Bangarra Group, one of Australia’s wealthiest family offices, has hired Fairway Capital to convert its 1,500‑acre Crown Golf portfolio—eight courses across London and southern England—into 3,000 homes, about one‑third classed affordable, in a project valued at more than GBP1bn (USD1.33bn). The plan is an early test of UK reforms encouraging development on “grey‑belt” land, part of Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ growth strategy to ease a chronic housing shortage while demanding at least 15 % more affordable units than local policies require. Success could influence how developers exploit lower‑quality green‑belt sites, after London’s mayor signalled readiness to release such land for housebuilding. Bangarra says property’s insulation from tariffs and policy swings underpins the move as investors seek stable assets amid global trade uncertainty.
