Global asset manager BNY Investments has appointed Masaaki Sakakibara as the new head of its Japan operations, effective September 9. Based in Tokyo, Sakakibara joins from Mercer Japan, where he served as wealth business country leader and CEO of Mercer Investments (Japan). He previously held senior roles at Western Asset Management Japan and Goldman Sachs Asset Management. In his new role, Sakakibara will report to Doni Shamsuddin, CEO of BNY Investments for Asia Pacific. His experience is expected to support the firm’s long-term growth in Japan. BNY Investments, formerly known as BNY Mellon Investment Management, rebranded earlier this year.
