Peter Stein, a former Wall Street Journal editor, has been named the new chief executive of the Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA), effective February 8, 2024. Stein, who currently heads the Private Wealth Management Association (PWMA), will take over the role at ASIFMA's Hong Kong office, succeeding Alice Law who resigned in July 2023. Stein previously worked at UBS in regulatory advisory and relations for the APAC region and served as an ASIFMA board member. His extensive career also includes over two decades at the Wall Street Journal, where he was the Hong Kong bureau chief. ASIFMA, an independent regional trade association, represents a diverse group of 170 firms, including major banks, asset managers, law firms, and market infrastructure service providers. The association's membership boasts prominent names such as HSBC, UBS, and BlackRock.
