Thailand said the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit will go on in November despite the suspension of the country’s prime minister, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha. Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said plans for the 2022 APEC summit have not been affected by Gen Prayut’s suspension. He added that the suspension will also not affect international confidence in Thailand. The country’s Constitutional Court has suspended Gen Prayuth from official duties after deciding to hear a petition seeking a review of his legally mandated eight-year term limit. Prayuth could be restored to his position when the court makes its ruling.
