AI Investment Boom Could Lift Asian Economic Growth, Says IMF

IMF Asia AI growth projections suggest that accelerating investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure could provide a significant boost to economic activity across the region.
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said the AI investment boom is helping sustain global economic growth at approximately 3%, with Asian economies benefiting particularly from demand for technology hardware.
According to Georgieva, AI investment could increase economic growth in advanced Asian economies by 0.5 to 1 percentage point, while emerging Asian economies could gain between 0.2 and 0.8 percentage point.
Speaking at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, she described the AI boom as a demand and investment shock helping offset the economic drag from an energy supply shock.
Thailand was identified as one beneficiary because of its role in supplying hardware used in AI infrastructure.
For institutional investors and family offices, the projections highlight potential opportunities across Asian technology manufacturing and infrastructure supply chains.
