AI Access Restrictions Hit Goldman Sachs Bankers in Hong Kong

AI access restrictions

AI access restrictions are emerging inside global financial institutions as Goldman Sachs bars its Hong Kong bankers from using Anthropic’s Claude models, according to the Financial Times.

The restriction prevents staff in the city from accessing Claude directly or through Goldman’s internal AI platforms, although it does not apply to other providers including OpenAI.

The move followed a strict reading of the bank’s contractual arrangements with Anthropic, whose models are not officially supported in Hong Kong.

The decision highlights how US-China tensions are starting to affect productivity tools used by banks for coding, data analysis and financial modelling.

AI access restrictions could raise wider concerns for Hong Kong’s financial sector as institutions increasingly rely on artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, research workflows and client servicing.
