Economists prefer Jokowi critic to lead Indonesia: Bloomberg

In the upcoming Indonesian presidential race, economists have shown a strong preference for Anies Baswedan, former Jakarta governor, in a Bloomberg survey. Baswedan, known for his criticism of President Joko Widodo, leads the poll with the highest score among 17 economists and market analysts. Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto and former Governor Ganjar Pranowo are also key contenders. As Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, approaches its election with over 204 million voters, the focus is on who will steer its over-USD1tr economy. Expectations of economic growth surpassing 5% add to the election’s significance. Baswedan, gaining traction in opinion polls, has proposed policies like taxing the wealthy and generating green jobs.
