Bank unions are opposed to normalising the operating hours of major banks in Korea after the government lifted the indoor mask mandate. Bank management decided to normalise the service hours even as they were unable to reach an agreement with the union. The union warned it will take legal action against the management for normalising service hours without an agreement. Lee Bok-hyun, head of the Financial Supervisory Service, said they would have to look at whether it is appropriate for the union to oppose the management’s decision, which was made based on legal grounds. Lee said the government and the financial authorities are willing to take strong action against those who express themselves in illegal forms against measures that are rightfully based on the law.
