The Global Business Travel Association is expecting that a recovery in global business travel spending to pre-pandemic levels is likely to be delayed by 18 months to 2026. This is because of persistent inflation, high energy prices, labour shortages, and lockdowns in China. The association said business travel spending rebounded by 5.5% to USD697bn in 2021 with North America leading the recover,y but remained well short of 2019 levels of USD1.4tr. It said that environmental sustainability considerations and the regional impact of the war in Ukraine are also weighing on travel demand. The China Travel International Investment Hong Kong also warned it will slide into an interim loss of HKD250m from a profit of HKD5.22m a year ago.
