Thailand is targeting becoming Southeast Asia’s artificial intelligence (AI) hub by 2027, focusing on foreign technology investment in cloud data centres, as per Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantanaruangthong. Under the "cloud first” policy, Thailand will promote a unified digital ID platform for government services and emphasise AI skills training. The country is gearing up for the second phase of its national AI strategy roadmap in 2024, aiming to generate THB48bn (USD1.4bn) in business and social impacts by 2027. Collaborations with major tech firms from the US, China, and Japan are underway to establish cloud data centres. Prasert signed an MoU with Huawei at the Cloud AI Summit Thailand 2023 to build AI use cases and applications in the Thai language.
