The issuance of sustainability-linked bonds is expected to see the strongest growth in 2022 to a record USD1.35tr globally, said Moody's ESG Solutions. The Moody’s report, however, said that while sustainable bond issuances are expected to hit a record this year, growth is expected to slow amid a maturing market and monetary tightening. According to the report, the volume of green, social, sustainability, and sustainability-linked (GSSS) bonds was projected to grow 36% this year, slowing from the 64% growth rate seen last year, when the issuance reached USD992bn. Despite the moderation in growth, Matthew Kuchtyak, vice-president of ESG outreach and research at Moody’s ESG Solutions, said that sustainable bonds will continue to rise as the share of global bond issuance is expected to reach 15% of the total issuance this year.
