Singapore ranks in top five of the Global Innovation Index 2023

Singapore now joins Switzerland, Sweden, the US, and the UK as the world's most innovative economies in 2023, according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation's Global Innovation Index (GII). The city-state's ranking in the GII highlights its robust innovation landscape, according to the index. It ranks highest in institutions (1st), human capital and research (2nd), and business sophistication (3rd). Its lowest rankings, however, include creative outputs (18th), knowledge and technology outputs (10th), and infrastructure (8th). The GII 2023, which employs 80 indicators to assess over 130 economies, emphasises the country's resilience and adaptability amid a global backdrop of economic recovery challenges, high interest rates, and geopolitical tensions. The report also notes a worrying decline in global venture capital funding, which is crucial for fostering innovation. This achievement reflects Singapore's sustained commitment to innovation and development, even as the world grapples with financial and geopolitical uncertainties.
