Singapore, Malaysia, sign Johor-SG special economic zone MOU



Singapore and Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), aiming to enhance cross-border flows of goods and people and increase investment. The MOU, inked by Singapore’s Trade and Industry Minister and Malaysia’s Minister of Economy, was witnessed by both countries’ prime ministers. It marks a step towards a comprehensive agreement on the JS-SEZ, focusing on cooperation in mutual interest sectors and geographic coverage. The initiative is expected to boost economic relations, connectivity, and prosperity. The MOU includes plans for more efficient cross-border movement, such as a QR code clearance system, and a joint committee overseeing its implementation.
