Singapore firms score higher in corporate governance

The Singapore Governance and Transparency Index (SGTI) 2023 scores reveal an impressive improvement in corporate governance practices among companies on the Singapore Exchange. The general category score rose to 74.8 points, marking the first time the mean score exceeded 50% of the maximum score since the index's inception 15 years ago. Singtel reclaimed its top ranking with a score of 120, while CapitaLand Ascott Trust maintained its top position among Reits and business trusts. Significant progress was noted in the disclosure of stakeholder engagement practices, reflecting a growing focus on sustainability. The assessment was jointly conducted by CPA Australia, the National University of Singapore Business School's Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS), and the Singapore Institute of Directors.
