Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, concluded his 10-day visit to the US with optimism about future cooperation between the two nations. Beyond the traditional pillars of defense and security, Singapore aims to expand bilateral ties with the US in emerging technologies, outer space exploration, and green energy solutions. Notably, Wong highlighted cooperation in assisting Pacific Islands’ nations and expressed interest in civilian nuclear energy as a potential green energy transition strategy, acknowledging Singapore’s challenges with other renewable sources. While recognising the complexity of a multipolar world, Wong remains confident in the US’s sustained global dominance. The visit also spotlighted discussions on escalating tensions in Gaza and potential repercussions for Southeast Asia.
