Indonesia's economy forecast to post higher growth in Q1

Despite the increase in Omicron infections, Indonesia's economy is expected to show higher growth in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, the country's finance minister, Mulyani Indrawati, said. At a press conference, the minister expressed confidence that the first four months of 2022 will not be heavily affected by the increase in Omicron cases and that the government is expediting efforts to achieve national herd immunity. She, however, urged the public to continue observing strict health protocols so that the virus transmission will be curbed. This, in turn, will result in further opening up of economic activities. Indonesia has set a growth target of above 5%.
