Hong Kong tourists among top spenders in Japan

Hong Kong tourists were among Japan's top five overseas spenders in Q2 2023, spending a total of JPY91.6bn (USD650m), according to Japan Tourism Agency data. Meanwhile, a Booking.com survey shows optimism among Asia-Pacific travelers. Despite facing economic challenges, 73% of those surveyed remain positive about their travel plans in the next year. Notably, 53% have no intention to postpone travel amid global crises like inflation and climate change. Furthermore, 59% plan to increase not only their travel frequency but also their travel budgets. The data and survey suggest a strong recovery for the travel industry in Asia-Pacific, with foreign tourist spending in Japan reaching 95% of the total seen in Q2 2019, prior to the pandemic.
