
According to a TransUnion report, Hong Kong recorded the highest suspected digital fraud attempt rate globally in the first half of the year, at 18.3%. This figure is significantly higher than the global average of 5.3%. The study highlighted a 57% surge in suspected digital fraud attempts from Hong Kong compared to last year's same period. The most affected sector was travel and leisure, witnessing an 8.1% fraud attempt rate. Globally, retail, gaming, and telecommunications were the hardest hit with rates of 10.6%, 7.0%, and 5.3%, respectively. Furthermore, a TransUnion survey conducted between July 10 and July 19 revealed 32% of Hong Kong adults felt targeted by fraud in the last three months. Vishing, fraudulent phone calls seeking personal data, was the primary fraud scheme experienced at 34%.
