The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) have launched the FPS x PromptPay Link, a cross-border QR payment system for Hong Kong and Thailand. This service, announced on December 4, enables travellers to make retail payments using mobile apps to scan QR codes in both regions, offering a convenient and secure transaction method. HKMA’s Eddie Yue and BOT’s Dr. Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput emphasised the system’s role in enhancing cross-border payments and supporting regional tourism and economic activities. Developed in collaboration with various stakeholders, including banks and payment system operators, this initiative promises to provide an efficient, cost-effective payment option. It also aims to serve as a catalyst for more financial innovations in the Asia-Pacific region.
