Hang Seng seeks opinion on inclusion of foreign firms in HSI

Hang Seng Indexes Company is seeking feedback on whether to include foreign companies in the Hang Seng Index, a benchmark index for Hong Kong stocks. The proposal includes assessing the eligibility of foreign companies for inclusion and reviewing the results of the seven industry groups for constituent selection in the index. The proposal extends the scope of the HSI universe to primarily-listed foreign companies in Hong Kong and subjects them to the same inclusion criteria as other potential constituents. The proposal is consistent with Hong Kong's status as a global financial centre that bridges mainland China and other parts of the world. As the number of constituents in the HSI has grown, the weighting of “HK” constituents has declined from 42.7% to 34.7%, with more mainland China companies being added.
