Cyber attacks on Southeast Asian businesses up 45.3% last year


For Southeast Asia as a whole, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky recorded a 45.3% increase in web attacks, blocking a total of 13.34 million attempts to infect businesses in 2022, up from 9.18 million in 2021. Singapore saw the highest rise, jumping more than threefold to 889,093 web attacks in 2022 from 207,175 in 2021. Malaysia followed with a 197% increase, while Thailand recorded a 63% increase, and Indonesia had a 46% rise. Cyber attacks against businesses in the Philippines rose by 29% in 2022. Kaspersky identified human and technical errors as the main weaknesses exploited by attackers, urging businesses to strengthen their defences.
