Malaysian prime minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will restructure the country's economy based on three main strategies - eradicating poverty, restructuring and restoring the existing economy, and generating growth following the government’s Malaysia Madani blueprint. Anwar said the main drivers that form the core of Malaysia Madani approach to rebuilding the economy are guaranteeing the wellbeing of the people; reforming democratic and legal institutions, and establishing a trustworthy administration. Addressing the Developing a Malaysia Madani event in Putrajaya, Anwar stressed that the number of poor people is still too high with more than 136,000 households in the hardcore poor category and over 308,000 households in the poor category as of July 2022.
